MTEA Job Descriptions

President $15,000

1. conducts Exec meetings;
2. presides over rep council meetings;
3. conducts round table meetings with the superintendent;
4. direct contact with all Executive Committee members;
5. weekly contact with NJEA Uniserve Rep;
6. public speaking on behalf of membership;
7. responds to telephone, mail, and email messages from membership, administration, the Board, and the public;
8. calls emergency meetings as needed;
9. leads Exec in developing sustainable systems less dependent on individuals;
10. helps train new members of Exec;
11. supports all members of Exec, Rep Council, and special committee chairs;
12. chair standing and special committees as appropriate and/or needed;
13. keeps first VP advised;
14. be directly available by email and phone to all Exec members;
15. builds relationships with SCEA and NJEA leaders;
16. stays current with county, state, and national issues affecting membership;
17. attends all regular and most special Board meetings;
18. co-signs all MTEA checks;
19. is an advocate for membership rights;
20. serves on Negotiations in the role of co-chair;
21. Represents MTEA to the community;
22. Develops MTEA calendar including relevant dates from SCEA, NJEA and NEA.

Vice President, High School $4,500

1. directs Head Building Representative(s) with Association Representative system in building;
2. attends Exec meetings;
3. attends Rep Council meetings and help lead two or three;
4. attends Round Table meetings and creates agenda with input from VPs;
5. assists with BOE meetings;
6. attends all MTEA job actions;
7. maintains a current home email list;
8. keeps in contact with building Evaluation and Grievance committee members;
9. keeps president advised of building issues;
10. meets regularly with principal and convey equality of rank;
11.represents members in private meetings;
12. obtains e-copy of master schedule & forward to Grievance chair and President, and check schedules for irregularities;
13. presents list of next year’s building reps at June Exec meeting;
14. attends leadership training at state and county levels;
15. other duties as assigned by president;
16. organizes collection of money for retirees.

Vice President, Orchard Hill $4,500

1. directs Head Building Representative(s) with Association Representative system in building;

1. attends Exec meetings;
2. prepares agendas for all Exec meetings, keeps minutes of meetings, distributes minutes;

4. attends Superintendent Round Table meetings and keeps minutes;
5. prepares e-mail agenda/notes for building/group rep meetings;
6. maintains organized and accurate records;
7. knows parliamentary procedures;
8. advises President and prepares special reports on an as needed basis;
9. organizes registration for members to attend NJEA sponsored workshops;
10. well versed in CBA and constitution.

Treasurer $4,800

1. writes checks to pay MTEA bills and reimburses members for authorized expenditures;
2. keeps accurate and detailed financial records;
3. completes necessary paperwork for payroll, insurance, and insurance audit;
4. prepares records for submission to auditor;
5. keeps President advised of changes in financial standing;
6. serves on Budget Committee;
7. sends monthly statement to Budget Chair;
8. attends Exec meetings and Rep Council and presents monthly report.

Cert Member-at-Large $1,000 (2)

1. serves on PRIDE/PR Committee;
2. organizes and attends at least 2 PRIDE events;
3. represents interests of members;
4. attends a least 2 MTEA social events;
5. serves on Action Committee and attends all MTEA job actions;
6. serves on Bargaining Council;
7. attends or organizes Meet the Candidates Night;
8. attends Exec meetings and provides a report whenever necessary;
9. attends at least 2 BOE meetings;
10. well versed in CBA;
11. coordinates member attendance at BOE meetings for the year (Goal: 2 MTEA members at each meeting in additional to president)

ESP Member-at-Large (G/M/C) $1,000

1. makes certain that all members of unit receive MTEA communications and know how they fit into building rep structure;
2. represents interests of members;
3. serves on Action Committee and attends all MTEA job actions;
4. serves on Bargaining Council;
5. attends Exec meetings and provides a report whenever necessary;
6. attends at least 2 BOE meetings;
7. maintains a current home email list;
8. well versed in CBA;
9. must report any new member to membership chair within one week of hire;

ESP Member-at-Large (Sec/Book/Clerk) $1,000

1. makes certain all members of unit receive MTEA communications and know how they fit into building rep structure;
2. represents interests of members;
3. serves on Action Committee and attends all MTEA job actions;
4. serves on Bargaining Council;
5. attends Exec meetings and provides a report whenever necessary;
6. attends at least 2 BOE meetings;
7. maintains a current home email list;

ESP Member-at-Large (Para, R.N., Tech. Aide) $1,000

Action/Legislative Chair ($1500 during a negotiations year, $1000 during non-negotiations year)

  1. plans and executes political actions or events; 
  2. serves on SCEA Legislative Action Committee; 
  3. recruits committee; 
  4. keeps membership informed of pending legislation affecting Membership; 
  5. encourages participation in school elections and relevant general elections;
  6. encourages participation in NJPAC;
  7. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report; 
  8. attends all MTEA job actions;
  9. direct contact with negotiation chairs, Bargaining Council, president;
  10. plans and executes actions or events related to negotiations; 
  11. recruits committee for communication to membership about events/actions; 
  12. submits end of year report.

Budget Chair $1,200

1. works with president to develop draft of budget for June Exec;
2. seeks input on suggested revisions from prior year’s budget;
3. prior to September Exec, meets with Budget Committee consisting minimally of president, membership chair, pride chair, and treasurer to revise budget draft;
4. presents proposed budget to Exec and revise as necessary;
5. presents proposed budget to Rep council;
6. reviews monthly treasurer’s report;
7. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report.

Evaluations/PD Chair $4000

  1. responsible for overseeing five buildings; 
  2. trains and leads committee;
  3. expert in Danielson Model of evaluation; 
  4. expert in Learning Focused Conversation Model;
  5. expert in Contract language and State Law regarding Evaluation Process;
  6. communicate with Building Principles on a regular basis and document concerns;
  7. attends district PD in collaboration with admin that pertains to changes in observation practice;
  8. represents members in jeopardy;
  9. provides guidance and support to members in jeopardy; 
  10. direct contact with Assistant Superintendent and HR director on matters pertaining to changes in evaluation/observation process;
  11. keeps president advised; 
  12. conveys equality of rank when interacting with Administration;
  13. facilitates 2 committee member meetings by Oct. 15 and June 15;
  14. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report;
  15. keeps apprised of PD and mentoring issues;
  16. communicates district, county, and outside PD offerings to staff;
  17. submits end of year report.

Evaluation Committee Members $700 (2 per building; 10)

1. attends annual committee formation meeting or arrange to meet with chair;
2. holds annual meetings in fall for non-tenured teachers;
3. encourages non-tenured and tenured staff to share all evaluations and responses;
4. provides support and suggestions in building evaluations meetings;
5. conducts private meetings with staff as needed;
6. assists staff with writing responses;
7. one member per building will serve on ScIP(see description) and the other member will serve on DEAC;
8. receives training from Chair.

Grievance Chair $4,000

1. must have excellent knowledge of the collective bargaining agreement, a firm grasp of Board Policies, and familiarity with labor law;
2. provides training for committee members;
3. abides by timelines throughout the grievance process;
4. serves on SCEA Grievance Committee or names designee;
5. oversees all district grievances;
6. direct contact with Administration, MTEA president;
7. conveys equality of rank when interacting with Administration;
8. facilitate 2 committee member meetings by Oct. 15 and Mar. 15.;
9. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report;
10. submits end of year report.

Grievance Committee Members $600 (6) and (1) G/M/C at $1,000

1. attends committee training meetings or arranges to meet with chair;
2. receives training from Chair;
3. is alert for staff having difficulties;
4. conducts private meetings with staff as needed.

Membership Chair $2,000

1. keeps accurate records of members on MARS on the Web;
2. provides Budget Chair with accurate membership count by unit;
3. keeps Vice Presidents informed of any non-members in their building;
4. checks dues deductions reports sent by payroll;
5. monitors personnel section of board minutes for members coming and going;
6. nominates honorary members;
7. attends all MTEA job actions;
8. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report;
9. submits end of year report.

Negotiations Chair $4,000 on/$1000 off

1. attend SCEA Negotiations Roundtables and NJEA leadership training;
2. monitors NJBOE Online Negotiator;
3. works with the President, assembles Negotiations Team;
4. trains Negotiations Team & assign job responsibilities;
5. develops membership survey;
6. leads negotiation of Collective Bargaining Agreement;
7. negotiates sidebar agreements;
8. monitors status of negotiations in off years;
9. assembles Bargaining Council & develops agendas;
10. works with Action Chair as needed and attends all MTEA job actions;
11. presents at ratification meeting;
12. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report.

Negotiations Team Members $2,200 (Data Specialist & Secretary), Other Committee Members (3) $1,650)

1. attends MTEA, SCEA, and NJEA training;
2. commits to team building and consensus;
3. commits to attending all negotiations committee meetings and bargaining sessions;
4. assists with research of comparable agreements;
5. represents all MTEA members;
6. attends all MTEA job actions.

Social $2,000

1. organizes several staff events (breakfast, holiday social, fall events, etc.);
2. creates advertisements;
3. organizes and runs the Recognition Dinner;
4. organizes Exec Sunshine Club;
5. creates and maintains spreadsheet of expenses;
6. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report;
7. attends all MTEA job actions;
8. submits end of year report.

Philanthropic $2,000 ($1,500 if no MFTH)

1. produces Music from the Heart (see separate attachment);
2. conducts a scholarship review session (see separate attachment);
3. creates fundraising opportunities to support philanthropic account;
4. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report;
5. attends all MTEA job actions;
6. serves on Pride/PR committee;
7. submits end of year report.

PRIDE/F.A.S.T./Community Outreach Chair $3000

  1. promotes the MTEA through community service and community outreach events; 
  2. organizes Read Across America;
  3. organizes back to school nights at each school;
  4. organizes teacher for a day program;
  5. writes press releases and submits to news organizations;
  6. submits Pride request for next year to President in June;
  7. plans and executes Pride and F.A.S.T. events;
  8. supports and encourages members in hosting their own Pride and F.A.S.T. events; 
  9. maintains email and webpage to provide information on Pride and F.A.S.T. events;
  10. presents potential Pride and F.A.S.T. events to Exec. in September;
  11. submits Pride and F.A.S.T grant applications to NJEA by November 15th;
  12. gathers all necessary materials for events and submits reimbursement by the individual deadlines;
  13. secures reimbursement for members for any event expenses;
  14. maintains inventory of PRIDE and F.A.S.T. materials;
  15. attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report;
  16. attends all MTEA job actions; 
  17. submits end of year report.

Election Chair $500

1. produces voting forms;
2. co-ordinates voting procedures for all internal elections including Delegate Assembly candidates, Exec board positions, and ratification vote on new contract;
3. submits election plan to exec at least 60 days before the election.

Benefits Chair $3,000

1. Keep apprised of State and Federal FMLA procedures, Chapter 78 and district calculations for health benefits;
2. Provide training for committee members;
3. Facilitate 2 committee member meetings annually, one by Oct. 15 and one by May 15;
4. Serve as liaison to Negotiations Team and/or when Board proposes a change of carriers or coverage;
5. Direct contact with Administration, MTEA President;
6. Conveys equality of rank when interacting with Administration;
7. Attends Exec meetings and presents monthly report;
8. Submits end of year report.

Philanthropic Treasurer $300

1. responsible for depositing money from philanthropic events;
2. manages philanthropic accounts;
3. writes checks from philanthropic account for reimbursements and scholarships.

Pride Treasurer $300

1. works directly with Pride Chair;
2. must have Pride forms on hand (get them from the Pride Chair);
3. all Pride receipts go directly to the treasurer;
4. confirms all reimbursable pride projects (no Walmart or Sam’s Club);
5. checks for duplicate receipts;
6. verifies paper work so that the Pride form has been completed under the right program;
7. adds receipts and compare with what is written on the Pride form;
8. pays all recipients;
9. signs, dates and writes check number at the bottom of the Pride form and send the form to the Pride Chair;
10. keeps track of expenditures so that they don’t exceed the allotted amount for the Pride Project.

SCEA Liaison $300

1. attends SCEA Rep Council;
2. recruits SCEA reps ($30 per meeting);
3. presents reports to Exec.

ScIP (School Improvement Panel) $300 (1 per building; 5)

1. communicates monthly with building administration (Principal, VP);
2. pass along pertinent information to the DEAC representative from the building;
3. works to ensure that teachers that have been given an “Corrective Action Plan” are receiving Professional Development;
4. analyzes aggregate Evaluation Data and helps to plan data-driven building PD;
5. communicates regularly with the MTEA PD Chair;
6. is viewed as their building’s “Resident Expert” on Professional Development and Mentoring.

Sick Bank Chair $700

1. meets with MTEA members to inform them on Sick Bank policies and procedures;
2. provides an FAQ write-up for new members in the beginning of the school year;
3. maintain documents for each case presented to the Sick Bank;
4. conference with Director of Human Resources on each case initiated by MTEA members;
5. advocate for members’ rights to access Sick Bank days;
6. meet with extended Sick Bank Committee – made up of Board members and MTEA representatives – to review and decide on cases;
7. maintain positive working relationship with Board and Director of Human Resources;
8. correspond with HR, MTEA and Board regarding cases;
9. write an annual report for the MTEA recapping Sick Bank usage, additions and balance of Sick Bank days.

Soda Machine Chair $1,500

1. buys “on sale” soda and stores at home or in the MTEA office;
2. submits receipts for reimbursement and deposits slips to treasurer;
3. keeps all five soda machines stocked;
4. tracks income from each machine;
5. deposits money in bank;
6. makes minor repairs to machines and calls repairman as necessary.

Website Chair $1,400

1. performs technical and creative functions in the management of a user-friendly, visually appealing and informative site;
2. assures the content of all web based communications are in accord with the goals, policies, and philosophies of the Association, on a local, county, state, and national level, consulting with appropriate leadership as necessary;
3. refreshes site content to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information & images, to provide members with a rich online experience;
4. updates web based calendar of activities, using the information and assistance provided from committee chairs, as well as information from the County, State, & National levels;
5. provides and/or arranges training to necessary members on the maintenance of web pages;
6. acts as a liaison with NJEA Sites (hosting company) and the general public;

Head Building Representative $700 (5 - 1 per building)

1. works with VP to set up effective rep system in building:
2. holds rep organizational meeting in September;
3. assists VP with Back to School Night PRIDE tables;
4. establishes schedule of regular before or after school, lunch time, department, team, or grade level rep meetings;
5. presents list of next year’s reps at May Rep Council meeting;
6. organizes collection of retiree gift money in May;
7. recruits new members and rep fee payers;
8. responsible for election ballots;
9. circulates special MTEA communications;
10. attends all Rep Council meetings;
11. attends all MTEA job actions;
12. serves on Action Committee;
13. helps membership chair with getting new members to sign up;
14. organizes collection of money for retirees.

Head Building Representative, Board Office $700

1. attends all Rep Council meetings;
2. establishes schedule of regular monthly 10-minute meetings, before or after school, lunch time;
3. recruits new members and rep fee payers;
4. responsible for election ballots;
5. circulates special MTEA communications to Grounds and Maintenance and Secretaries;
6. maintains updated home email list for communication;
7. attends all MTEA job actions;
8. serves on Action Committee;
9. helps membership chair with getting new members to sign up;
10. organizes collection of money for retirees.

Benefits Committee Members (5 - one per bldg. HS rep serves Board Office staff) $800

1) Assist members regarding Health Benefits and FMLA;
2) Attend 2 committee meetings per year with Chair and committee members;
3) Attend FMLA training in district or at SCEA training;
4) Facilitate one informational meeting per year for your building;
5) Monthly reports to Committee Chair regarding benefits issues in your building;
6) Maintain confidentiality regarding members’ information.

Equity Chair $1500

  1. serves as the district equity representative
  2. represents interests of members;
  3. oversees the subcommittees;
  4. sends communications to membership as needed for events, celebrating holidays or about challenging events on a local or national level;
  5. works with the president to share out information at ACI and BOE meetings
  6. attends a least 2 MTEA social events;
  7. attends or organizes Meet the Candidates Night;
  8. attends Exec meetings and provides a report whenever necessary;
  9. attends at least 2 BOE meetings;
  10. well versed in CBA;
